SorobanGeeks’ Portable Media World has a killer review of the MPM-20X from NHJapan, a (duh) portable media player with a built-in 30GB hard drive. One of the best things about the MPM-20X is the fact that it can record via direct from a video source, instead of being reliant on a computer to get its video files (although you can do that, too, of course). The complete package looks very nice, with a full-featured dock and a lot of smart design choices (like a kick stand!), as well as the freedom that comes from not being tied into Microsoft’s Portable Media Center system.
So why does PMW recommend to pass on the MPM-20X? The heart of the device, the LCD screen, is pants. Ugly, grainy, washed-out pants.
