Nikon announced five(!) new Coolpix models today: the 7900, 5900, 7600, 5600, and 4600. Try to keep up, dahlinks.

The high-end models, the 7900 and the 7600, pack 7.1 megapixels apiece and a slew (slew!) of new features. Look for several new Nikon features getting their first taste of real-world play here, included D-Lighting, intended to keep bright areas bright while lightening up the darker spots, and Face-priority AF, which detects the presence of a human face and adjusts accordingly. Both cameras come with 3x Zoom Nikkor lenses and in-camera red eye reduction, while the 7600 promises the first taste of Nikkon’s electronic vibration reduction function.

The 5900 and 5600 play mid-field with 5.1 megapixels (see how this naming thing works?) and most if not all of the same features as their big brothers. Both models come with D-Lighting, the Zoom Nikkor lens and red eye reduction, but only the 5900 gets to keep Face-priority AF. The 5600 makes up for it a bit though with the inclusion of the Electronic VR.

And then there’s the Coolpix 4600, at (say it together) 4.1 megapixels. while the weakest power-wise of the new cameras, the 4600 isn’t hurting for features: you’ll get D-Lighting, red eye reduction, and a new camera shake warning. Super light and compact, the 4600 is at least practical if not all-powerful.
