A few of you have written to ask where our Nintendo DS launch news was—I sort of thought you guys that were interested in picking up a DS already had one, since they’ve been sold out on pre-orders for the last couple of weeks at least, but hey! DS is launching, friends—I hope you get one.
I can’t tell you how back and forth I am on the DS—every time I think it’s going to be a weak product, I see some new game I want to play—but for now let’s just acknowledge that if nothing else, Nintendo has done a great job pushing it out the door before Sony (to great effect, apparently).
Gaming Horizon has some coverage of launch sales at EBX if you’d like to see what it looks like to wait in line for hours, and Lik-Sang has already cracked one open for a look at its kidneys.
First reports say that GBA flash carts still work just fine, which is nice (just for GBA games, of course; there’s no way to copy DS games yet to my knowledge). Also, I’d like to know what peripherals company is going to release little thumb condoms with nubbins to replace the thumb strap thing. Lots of people are reporting that placing Metroid (a first-person shooter) is the closest console gaming has gotten to mouse and keyboard yet.
