Nokia Licenses Microsoft ActiveSync for Series 60

Besides announcing Version 3.0 of their Series 60 platform at 3GSM, Nokia has also announced support for Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol. That means future Nokia devices will be able to plug seamlessly into Microsoft Exchange Servers, allowing them to easily push email, calendar and scheduling information out to their phone. That’s great—lots of businesses use Exchange on the backend, and having a native, official client means you’ll be able to pick up almost any phone, be it Windows Smartphone, PalmOne Treo (also a licensee), or Series 60, and plug right into your business backend.

The press release doesn’t say specifically, but I would expect this to only be released on future phones, not back-ported to older models. Anything’s possible, though.
