DAPreview has a nice review (and the first, I think) of the Olympus m:robe MR-100, the 5GB player from the company formerly best-known for its cameras. I played with both the MR-500 and the MR-100 at CES and have to say that while I was less than impressed with the MR-500 (fun toy, but not a good media player in general) the MR-100 struck me as a potential winner. It’s all style, really, with the black glass front that hides all the display and controls until you turn it on, when you can then see those pretty red LED arrows and monochromatic display. Fortunately, according to Austin Vaughan, it’s a pretty decent player, too—not the best in the segment as far as features go, but capable. If you’re looking for a player that looks like KITT to the all those iPod mini Love Bugs, it’s probably the one you want.
