Panasonic is getting progressive, and will announce its first 1080p plasma display today. The second largest plasma seller in the world is also set to cut the Japanese price of its 65-inch Viera display by half, according to the Daily Yomiuri. We hear that the U.S. price will drop too, but it s not clear by how much. Lower priced versions of the 30- and 40-inch TVs should follow as well.

There is, at present, no content to support 1080p, but PS3 will change all that soon enough.
