Parvus 104+ USB Controller

We don’t normally talk about actually electronics components, but this Parvus 104+ has some interesting potential for embedded applications. There’s not much to it—it’s a 4-port USB hub that outputs two amps of current to two of its ports instead of the standard 500 mAmps. That means a lot of traditionally non-bus-powered devices like printers or scanners can be powered from the hub, making it a lot easier to build a mobile computing rig from a single power source—like the solar-powered Unimog I’ll be living out of when I finally leave this decaying society to travel the world as a mercenary/gadget writer-for-hire.

For those of us with a bum soldering hand, we’ll definitely let you know if Parvus makes a retail product using this host controller.
