Although there’s official word from Pentax, information intended for Russian distributors is implying that Pentax will be leaving the film-camera business behind to instead focus almost solely on digital imaging, making it the first of the “Big Five” camera companies to make the transition. Compact and single-lens reflex film cameras will be phased out over the next six months, leaving medium-format units as the only remaining film cameras in their line-up. While it’s possible this is only applicable to the Russian market, I expect we’ll hear clarification from Pentax soon.
