Wow, I didn’t even know this would be possible (although I’m far from a cable signaling expert) — Japanese peripheral manufacturer Pixela has released a new FireWire to USB 2.0 cable that allows raw DV (and maybe anything else?) to be transferred from the FireWire port on video cameras to PCs that only have USB (or are using the USB for something else). Plus, if you have Service Pack 2 for Windows XP — not yet released, mind you — you’ll be able to transfer data back to the video camera, as well. The bridge cable is designated the PIX-UVCD/U1W (or ‘Sparky’) and will ship in July for around $85.
