This was, perhaps, a bad morning for me to discover the PodBoard, a “revolutionary iPod stand” that brings Apple’s brushed metal into the real world as an aluminum plate for displaying your iPod proudly to the world. Bad in the sense that I really could not possibly care less about a crimped piece of metal – Swiss-made or not – designed to do the job that the current iPod dock does perfectly well or better. But there you have it; $37 later you can be the proud owner of the world’s most superfluous iPod shrine. Don’t forget to ladle the blood of martyrs down its machine-cut slope and drape over it your wreath of human ears. You wouldn’t want anyone to think you weren’t the most dedicated, pretentious iPod owner in existence.
Maybe Apple could just start including a light into the top of the iPod, so that every one of us too-hipsters could be framed from below with a beatific glow. I’ve filled up my iPod with 10,000 copies of an angelic chorus singing the praises of my impeccable gadget purchase in preparation.
Oh, it’s only $37? Okay, screw it, I’ll take one. (Thanks, Caesar!)
