Pong Mechanik

I’ve linked to this once in the Bits remainders, but so many of you keep sending it in that you’ve convinced me it merits a whole post. Two German students have built an electro-mechanical version of Pong, replacing all the digital bits with pulleys and strings and electrical sensors. It is rather brilliant, perhaps I should not have been so hasty to pass it on. There’s a fine video, too, which is narrated in German but has English subtitles.

And if they want to get really electro-retro-mechano-analog, I challenge them to an all wooden replication of Galaga, except instead of little bricks representing the laser shots, I want them to use real fire.
