Primera Signature Z1 CD/DVD Printer Reviewed

Reading time 1 minute

Remember when you got your first CD burner and blank discs cost like $5 apiece? Every burn was a special, delicate event, too fragile to even move the mouse for the 45 minutes or so it took to write that massive 650MB disc. And when you were done, you gave it a special label, usually with one of those strange inkjet label barrels or painstaking Sharpie calligraphy. God I hated that.

Primera Technology is selling the Signature Z1, a $180 CD/DVD printer that can print 200dpi monochrome graphics right on the disc itself. It’s not fancy, it’s not exactly attractive, but it’s perfectly serviceable for putting a permanent, legible label without a lot of extra hassle—at least according to this review on ExtremeMHz. The only bummer I can see is that a $20 ink cartridge will only print about 200 discs.
