Prince is a notorious, Lars Ulrich-level hard-ass when it comes to the copyright protection of his work and has been especially outspoken in his distaste for YouTube. But it would appear that the seminal rocker has had a change of heart if this newly “leaked” single is any evidence.
Screwdriver, the new “official lyric single” above, originally appeared on the 3rdEyeGirl youtube account—(un)coincidentally, that’s also reportedly the name of Prince’s new backup band comprised of guitarist Donna Grantis, drummer Hannah Ford and bassist Ida Nielsen. With a heavy guitar and driving beat, this is some old-school glam-rock reminiscent of Prince’s pre-Purple Rain sound. [Guardian – Hollywood Reporter]
