RealNetworks and Starz (the cable channel) have launched an online movie distribution service with a monthly flat-fee, similar to Real’s Rhapsody music service. Called ‘STARZ! Ticket on Real Movies,’ only around 100 movies are currently available on the $13 a month service, although I would imagine more are to be added in the future. What I’m most dubious about is the quality of the films — the Reuters report mentions a 20-minute download time for each movie, which seems way too small to download a high-quality file. Of course, a compact file size could be good news if they want to start pushing these DRM’d files out to mobile devices.
