Rumor has it Amazon is talking to HTC about making its smartphone, and according to a Bloomberg report, that phone might just be for Amazon Prime subscribers.

Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg said Amazon wants a phone because it wants to increase the number of devices on which people could access Amazon Instant Video. So the incentive here would be to buy a Prime subscription and get a phone for very, very cheap if not free. That certainly fits in with the Amazon model of inexpensive devices that are deeply tied to its for-pay streaming content service. Bloomberg also said that Amazon isn’t totally sure it wants to make a phone yet, but the rumors make it seem like it’s not outside the realm of possibility. [Bloomberg]
