Rio Carbon: 5GB iPod Mini Fighter

By

Reading time 1 minute

As we talked about this weekend, Rio has announced at least one new player, an update to the Rio Nitrus called the ‘Rio Carbon,’ a 5GB hard disk-based MP3 player with a killer 20-hour battery life (if that’s the sort of thing that slays you; the iPod mini does about 8 to 10 hours, for comparison). Interestingly, the Carbon also has support for Microsoft’s new DRM platform, Janus; to my knowledge it’s the first player that has.

The Rio Carbon should be available late August and will retail for $250. Now where’s the Rio Chroma announcement?
