Roamio: Disposable Solid State Videocamera

By

Reading time 1 minute

An Australian company is hawking a new “disposable video camera” called the ‘Roamio,’ capable of taking up to 64 1.3-megapixel still images and recording 10 minutes of VHS-quality video (I could never quite determine if that included sound—I suspect not). The idea is much like the idea behind disposable still cameras—drop $50 (AU) on a simple camera with not much in the way of features (no LCD screen, for instance), shoot your vacation or what have you, then drop it off at a processing lab to receive a DVD filled with your images and movies.

It will look like trash compared to high-end DV equipment, of course, but that’s not the point. The short film on The New Inventors shows a perfect example: using it while pretending you know how to sail a boat. They might as well co-brand it with Australia’s Funniest Crotchshots right now. (Thanks, Richard!)
