Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters behind fashion house Rodarte, presented their most recent collection with a neon-light installation in an empty, cavernous building last week in Florence, Italy.
Anyone familiar with the sisters' fabulously eccentric creations and love of horror flicks won't be surprised by the unusual presentation, which was a capsule collection created for the Pitti Immagine trade show. Eschewing the Renaissance aesthetics of the city, the Rodarte designers suspended 10 dresses among patched-cement walls decorated with an enormous, cracked mirror. Although the sisters say Hollywood couture isn't their focus or inspiration, some of the dresses, especially those in blue and turquoise hues, appeared to be red-carpet ready. They won't see one though, they're destined for destined for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's permanent collection.
