The Samsung Electronics 870 EVO 2TB SSD is a 2.5-inch SATA drive. It fits into a laptop or desktop’s existing hard drive bay. Two terabytes can hold your Windows installation along with games and years of photos and videos on one drive. It comes in the same 2.5-inch format that most laptops and desktops use, so you don’t need to buy an adapter to make it fit in either type of computer.
Head over to Amazon to get the Samsung Electronics 870 EVO 2TB SSD for just $400, down from its usual price of $1,040. That’s a discount of $640 and 62% off.
A high-capacity SSD to help expand your storage needs
Sequential reads run up to 560 MB/s and write speeds up to 530 MB/s, which is the limit set by the SATA interface. The larger variable buffer holds those write speeds through longer transfers instead of letting them decrease halfway into an extensive file copy.
Endurance on the 2TB model is rated at 1,200 terabytes written, backed by a five-year limited warranty that ends at five years or that write total, whichever comes first. The rated workload runs from ordinary desktop computing up through 8K video processing.
Compatibility testing was conducted on major chipsets, motherboards, NAS systems, and video recording equipment. The 2.5-inch SATA drive is not limited to use in a typical desktop computer build, so the 870 EVO was tested against the actual hardware people put SATA drives into.
To install the drive, you just slot it into a standard 2.5-inch SATA drive bay of either your desktop or laptop, then connect the data cable and the power connector. Migration software is provided by Samsung to copy an existing operating system from a current installation onto this new drive. If you have an installed version of Windows, it will be transferred as-is, with no rebuilding, to the new drive. All of the features for managing the drive post-installation are available through Samsung’s Magician 6, which lets users update firmware, monitor the health of the drive, view the status of the drive, and make adjustments to performance.
Two terabytes of SATA storage, a read speed of 560 MB/s, and a 1,200 TBW endurance rating make the 870 EVO a drive designed to be left installed in a computer for extended periods of time rather than replaced on a regular basis. At $400, down from $1,040, that covers a bulk storage upgrade in a desktop, a boot drive replacement in an older laptop, or added capacity in a NAS enclosure.
