File sizes have gotten lubricous over the years. Gamers know this better than anyone. Let’s look at Grand Theft Auto. When GTA 3 hit the PlayStation 2, it sat on a DVD with a max storage size of 4.7GB. Let’s fast forward to today, where the install size of PlayStation 5 version of GTA 5 clocks in around 87GB. That is a massive jump, but it’s not over yet. The highly anticipated sixth installment is set to release later this year. One can only imagine right now how much space that’ll eat up.

The PlayStation 5 launch model released with an internal storage of about 1TB. Now that would have seemed like an unfathomable amount in the days of the PS2, but today, it means you can store maybe a dozen or so games. If you’re someone with a big collection and want to be able to hop between any of them without deleting and redownloading your library, 1TB likely won’t cut it.

You can upgrade to this Seagate external hard drive that’s officially licensed for PlayStation consoles. With it, you have a choice of either 2TB or a whopping 5TB of storage. You can sextuple your gaming library on PS5 with this little bad boy. It’s also on sale. The 2TB model is normally sold at $120, but the 14% discount takes it down by $20 to just $120. Likewise, the 5TB model which usually goes for $220 has come down 18%, a savings of $40 leaving you only having to pay $180.

Store All Your PS5 and PS4 Games

Now this hard drive is labeled PS5-ready, but there is a caveat. PS5 games cannot be played directly from the drive. The system architecture of the PlayStation 5 requires a much faster loading time than this drive is capable of. What that means for you is that you can store your extra games on this drive and then transfer them over to your console’s internal storage when you are ready to play. Transferring this way is still significantly faster than needing to redownload your games each time. PlayStation 4 games, however, can be played directly from the external hard drives since they don’t have the same speed requirements that modern titles have.

The Seagate external drive is super simple to use. It’s just plug and play. Just connect it to your PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 console using the included USB 3.0 cable and you are good to go.

The drive is compact and easy to travel with. You can head over to a friend’s house and bring your whole gaming library with you if you please.
