Seiko Epson has developed a prototype 40-inch OLED television, the largest such display in the world, which they plan to bring to market by 2007. Parlaying their experience with printers into a new method for printing organic layers on TFT substrates using an inkjet process, Seiko Epson has no plans to fully compete in the consumer electronics space, instead hoping to “make inroads into the TV market with such original approaches.” Hopefully by 2007 they’ll have made inroads into extending the lifecycle of OLEDs, many of which now have problems with dimming blues, causing the displays to take a yellowish cast as they age.
