Shokz has quickly become the it-brand for running and workout headphones. When I head to my weekly run club nights, nearly half the group are all sporting their bright orange Shokz OpenRun headphones. The audio manufacturer has expanded its lineup with some more options to fit a larger umbrella of consumer needs and preferences. Among them are is the Shokz OpenFit Air which happen to be on sale for 33% off. These open-ear earbuds are normally sold for $120, but have come down to just $80 for a limited time.
The main appeal of Shokz’ lineup of audio doo-dads is their open-ear design. By keeping your ear unobstructed, it allows the wearer to enjoy listening to whatever music, audiobook, or podcast they’ve decide to queue up, while remaining aware of their surroundings. This can be a crucial safety features for use cases like running along public roads. It’s best to know if there is a car approaching from behind by sound alone.
Now for running, I do prefer having the singular headphones that is the SHOKZ OpenRun, which have a stem connecting one earbud to the other behind the neck. Maybe that’s just my paranoia of being fearful of having a lone earbud fall out and bounce its way down a sewer grate. Though, that’s really not a fear here, because of the OpenFit Air’s secure hook design. These flexible hooks only weigh about 0.3 oz each and are made to slip around any size or shape ear, holding the earbud in place even during high-intensity workouts.
Charging Case
Having the separate earbuds also allows for the case to be a significant improvement on the Shokz OpenRun headphones case. The Shokz OpenFit Air earbuds case is small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket, which is not true of the Shokz OpenRun case. Additionally, this one is a charging case so you can let your earbuds recharge between workouts without needing to remember to plug them back in every time.
The battery life on the earbuds alone clock in at around six hours, but with the charging case, they will reach up to about 28 hours. If you ever let it die down to zero battery, that’s not problem either. A quick 10-minute charge will provide you with an extra two hours of playtime. That should be hopefully enough to get you through your run or workout of the day.
The Shokz OpenFit Air earbuds are fit for most activities as they are IP54 water resistant. To take more control of you earbuds, you can download the Shokz App to better control your own personalized EQ modes and setup customizable button functions.
