Here’s another one of those analog home phones masquerading as a cellphone, this time from Siemens Mobile. The Gigaset SL740 has all the major functions you’d expect from a mobile, like a built-in camera, MMS and SMS messaging capabilities, and picture caller identification. And no cords, which is usually part of the package (or isn’t, I guess. You know what I mean). It’s always a little amusing to see all these cell phone features being backported to something like a land line, though, even though it makes perfect sense. I don’t use POTS phones anymore, but you might as well toss in all the gee whiz functionality for people that still do.
Still, clearly a temporary bridge solution. It shouldn’t be too much longer before we can toss the wired phone network entirely (or move it all to VoIP). (Thanks, Frank!)
