Sonance, makers of the iPort—essentially a docking station for an iPod which allows you to stream its music contents throughout your home audio system—will be announcing video support for its system—even though the iPod doesn’t support video. By taking advantage of the oft-forgotten fact that the iPod is basically just a FireWire hard drive, Sonance will allow its users to use it as dumb storage and stream video across their home theater networks. And if you have an iPod photo, the photos and slideshows you’ve created to show your friends (once) can be streamed to your television, etc., as well.
Bear in mind, the iPort is a $600 part that needs to reside in a home theater network to work—this isn’t a low-end toy.
