PC Mag reviews the Sony DCR-HC40 MiniDV camcorder, and despite some issues with the touch-screen controls, find the most important stuff — image quality, battery life, and price — to be very strong for a $700 camera. It has “intelligent accessory shoes” that can power an optional light or microphone, and it happens to have an internal lens cover, something I find highly appealing in the smaller throw-and-go camera segment. Still image cameras almost all have internal lens covers these days; I don’t know why we expect anything different from camcorders.
