Business 2.0 has a short but sweet interview with Urban Gillstrom, president of Sony Ericsson, about the turn around the company has gone through over the last couple of years, as well as some of the directions they plan to go. A Palm-based phone, for instance, is definitely not happening (some people have been asking), and the success of the Symbian smartphones was definitely a factor in Sony’s decision to pull out of the US PDA market.
Matt Maier, who wrote the B2.0 piece, also gives his take on the new Sony S700, SE’s first 1-megapixel phone. He’s all aglow about its clean lines and good-quality pictures, and predicts it will be Sony’s next major hit since the T610. I haven’t played with one yet, but that sounds pretty reasonable to me.
