In this PSP versus DS speculative battle over the last few months, I’ve been pretty hard on the PSP, mostly because of its anticipated price and battery life. Now, having played the Nintendo DS, and hearing what Sony plans to sell the PSP for—$195, with a battery life of 4 to 6 hours—I can say I’m starting to fear for the dual-screen unit from Big N. It’s not that I think the DS is going to fail, exactly, but that I’m starting to think the PSP is going to be a huge, huge hit. I’m curious to see what happens when it hits here in Q1 of next year (from what we’ve heard).
Plus, even though 4 to 6 hours of battery life isn’t great (4 to 5 for movie playback), Sony is including a spare battery pack with every PSP—sort of a concession to the fact that their unit chews through power. (Update: Misinterpreted the phrasing of the bundle. Thanks, Scott!)
