NEC is releasing the first production device to utilizes NXT’s SoundVu technology which allows flat-panel LCD displays to double as speakers. By placing a 2mm-thick acrylic sheet over the screen and then vibrating via two ‘moving coil exciters’ placed at either edge, the monitor is able to produce a monophonic sound that simulates stereo using the precedence/phasing Haas effect. The monitor will first be available bundled with NEC’s Valuestar T and FS computers. (Thanks, Ennin!)
