In an age where USB flash drives and iPods are being banned in many corporate environments for fear that sensitive data will be stolen, I wonder how successful a product like the Realm Systems Mobile Personal Server (MPS) will be. It’s basically a computer hijack device, saving your computer state—down to your cursor position—no matter where you go. So assuming it works over even filtered, firewalled networks, it sounds like a great idea, although I do question why it needs so much local storage and processing power (Dual PowerPC, optional 20GB HDD) when the applications run web-side. Couldn’t just a USB flash drive get the job done?
And oh god, I almost forgot: they made their own promo movie called ‘Spy Another Day’ staring America’s answer to James Bond: Jon Lovitz. His ultimate enemy Q-esque gadget supplier? Gary “Still Working” Coleman. (I finally started watching it. This is called ‘taking a bullet.’) I wonder how many Mountain Dews it took for Realm Systems to come up with that idea (assuming they weren’t distracted by their hot inter-office G.U.R.P.S. game).
