Strangest of superhero rumors yet — actor Derek Luke told MTV that Marvel has already offered up the role of Captain America to the freshest prince who ever lived.In an interview for Miracle at St. Anna, Derek Luke explained that:
“I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America, just shows you how times have changed.”
Who exactly did Derek Luke hear this from? I think this is completely the rumor-mill at work or maybe wishful thinking. While Will Smith absolutely has the build for one of the greatest hand-to-hand combat heroes does this mean they are dumping the Steve Rogers Captain America story line for the other patriotic Super Serum Soldier, Isaiah Bradley? Maybe not, I could see Marvel flipping the whole thing around on us. We know Will Smith can carry a tent-pole production but aren’t we all a little sick of seeing him as the good guy? Still I’m really curious to see which way this casting goes. I’d consider the role a highly coveted part among the Hollywood elite after the media knighted Robert Downey Jr. lord of the world for his Iron Man performance. [MTV]
