FireWire has plenty of bandwidth for things like audio, and Terratec’s new Aureon 7.1 sound ‘device’ aims to exploit every bit of that bus it can. With a brash orange and charcoal design you’ll either love or loathe, it’s aimed more at home theater user more than the music maker (Terratec makes another FireWire sound unit for that), but mysteriously doesn’t support DTS with the supplied version of WinDVD (although an upgrade can fix that right up). It looks like a decent product, but a lack of focus might make it hard to justify the over $300 purchase price.
