With three months before release, it’s time for Insomniac Games to pull back the curtain on its latest title, Marvel’s Wolverine.

During Sony’s State of Play event, the developer showed off its take on the classic Marvel character. Similar to the recent Spider-Man games, this is an action-adventure affair that sees Logan globetrotting around the world, searching for answers to his past and saving innocent mutants. Like most X-Men stories, the game is set in a world where they’re not too prominent, hence their ability to travel without drawing much attention. But there’s a group of mutants looking to protect all of them—Team X, a group Logan that left years ago until rejoining at the start of the game.

In the gameplay reveal, Logan uses his claws to cut through the Reavers either head-on or with stealth takedowns. He’s looking to save some kidnapped mutants, and he’s not the only one on the trail: Team X leader Jean Grey shows up to lend a hand with her telekinesis, and they even pull off a takedown together. After a brief motorcycle segment, Wolverine hops on the convoy and slices up more Reavers, using his abilities to jump between transports and pull off some special attacks. Feral as he is, he can go down in fights, but some quick button mashing will lead to him recovering his health to get back in the fight.

Like its reveal trailer teased, Marvel’s Wolverine is also bringing several X-Men staples into the fold. Adjacent characters like Omega Red and Mystique will pop in and out of the story, as will a Deadpool-looking enemy and Logan’s longtime enemy Sabretooth. Oh, and there’ll be a Sentinel or four for Wolverine to fight, because his life is just chaotic like that.

Marvel’s Wolverine is out September 15 for PlayStation 5, with pre-orders going live after State of Play wraps.
