This strange object is a wine carafe – made of a drain stopper and what designer Stephen Newby calls “blown metal.” Using these soft-looking squares of metal, he builds sculptures, furniture, and fountains.

Recently a science museum in Durham, U.K., commissioned a Newby sculpture in order to provide “a symbol of space and time.”

You can see more of Stephen Newby’s work on his website.
