The Tree That Was a Storm

Pineville, Illinois was an ordinary town right up until that day in 1932 when the storm came to stay. Though it began as a regular tornado, the thing quickly put down roots and bloomed all over with flowers indistinguishable from clouds.

I love the way this illustration is reminiscent of social realist paintings of landscapes from the 1930s. It’s like Edward Hopper on crack. Concept artist Squidlyz created this image for the CGHub “Cloud Forest” challenge last year. You can see more of Nick’s work on his Deviant Art page.
