This Hybrid Mechanical Freak Is Actually Charming and Useful

The thought of cramming a desk lamp and a speaker into one body seems contrary to all laws of nature and design. A lightbulb?! A driver!? Together? Perversity! But Gem Hsin makes it work—and all powered by USB.

The Topaz lamp fits both sound and light into a form that looks natural for both. You’ve got three levels of light to choose from, and both sound and juice are routed via a single USB cord. Now, you’ll only get one channel, so unless you want to be the person with two designer lamps on their desk, you’ll have to ignore stereo. But hey, three adjustable levels of lampiness—that’s certainly better than stereo sound. [Gem Hsin via CrunchGear]
