We’re quickly approaching the first anniversary of the Nintendo Switch 2. In its freshman year, we’ve seen releases like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokémon Pokopia. The new Nintendo console follows the same hybrid TV and handheld play formula as the original Switch, and still suffers the same big problem too. If you want to play any of those great games on a different TV, you’ll have to move the dock.
The Switch 2 dock can be cumbersome to travel with with its multiple bulky parts. Plus if you already have the thing hooked up in your living room, you’ll have to undo whatever cable management you had already set up. You might even need to pull your heavy TV stand out from the wall every time you want to bring the dock elsewhere. This is why one of the best accessories you can get for your Nintendo Switch 2 is a travel dock.
Being as small as it is, the portable Switch 2 dock adapter travels easily. Most Switch 2 cases come with a small pouch inside to hold accessories such as the Switch 2 Joy-Con straps. If you have a case like this, it should fit in there no problem. Of course, it can always just be tucked into any bag you’re traveling with or even your pants’ front pocket—that can’t be said about the standard Switch 2 dock.
Plug and Play
This portable docking adapter works not just for the Nintendo Switch 2, but also the original Nintendo Switch and its various models, plus the Steam Deck. Amazon has it on sale. It’s normally only $15—already a steal—but right now, it’s been discounted 13% which shaved off a couple dollars and brings it to only $13 for a limited time.
This small adapter is colored based off Nintendo’s blue and red Joy-Con controllers to help it match the aesthetic of your console. It’s not a dock like what comes with the Nintendo Switch 2. This simple adapter just plugs into your handheld’s USB-C port. Then just connect an HDMI cable from the port on the other end to the TV you want to play on and voila.
When connected, you’ll be able to play all you new Nintendo Switch 2 titles in 4K at up to 60Hz. Do note that in order to play in TV mode on the Switch 2, it required plugging in a 20v3a PD charger (the original Switch requires a 15v2.6a PD charger).
The portable Switch 2 dock has a USB 3.0 port which can be used to connect supported accessories such as a wired controller, GameCube adapter, and more.
