Feeling pressured by various phone companies’ ability to bundle cable television, internet, and cellular service to their customers, Time Warner is making noise about moving into the mobile provider market itself. Hey maybe they could buy up MCI and become MCI/Time Warner or something? I bet no one would get fired over that.
Don’t except Time Warner to do much more than dip a toe in the market, though. They’ll most likely end up selling rebranded service a la Virgin Mobile or MTV or my mom or whoever else is reselling services these days. And maybe they’ll rape repurpose one of the Loony Tunes characters again, like they did with Roadrunner. I’m sure everyone would love to purchase sputtering cell phone coverage from Porky Pig.
