Verizon EV-DO Handsets: Samsung A890 and LG VX8000 Reviewed

Matt Maier reviews a pair of new Verizon EV-DO phones, the Samsung A890 and LG VX8000, both of which operate on the carrier’s newish high-speed cellular network yet don’t allow any mechanism for getting content on or off the phone (no Bluetooth, no memory cards). While Maier is impressed with the speed—and should be, because it’s the fastest network in wide deployment—it’s all seems sort of a waste to download new content to the phone all the time, including from Verizon’s $15-a-month VCast service, when I already have content I could use on PC. On the upside, both clamshell phones get high marks in every other category, with nice 1.3-megapixel cameras and lightweight, easy-to-use form factors.
