Although I don’t see anything about it on Voodoo PC’s website, Om Malik has information about a new Windows XP Media Center 2005 combo from the high-end PC manufacturer who has been most known in the past for making performance-oriented gaming machines. Called the ‘Vibe Media Center,” it’s comprised of a matching PC and Xbox, outfitted with the Microsoft Media Extender tweaked to also play AVI and DivX movies. You keep the Media Center PC in your office (or wherever) and use the Xbox as a front end for your media library. It’s not that revolutionary of an idea—that’s what the Media Extender kit is for, after all—but it’s interesting to see a company sell a package deal. Om is quoting a price of around $5k, though, so it’s not going to come cheap.
And just think of how inexpensively you could build the whole package if Microsoft sold XP Media Center Edition 2005 as a standalone OS.
