Apple made some waves this past September by unveiling the first ever foldable iPhone in their lineup. But while this is the first foldable phone Apple is selling, it is far from being the first foldable smartphone period. Samsung has been at it for awhile now and is already on their eighth generation device in the foldable market. There is always inherent risk when being a first adopter of a new product line, but Samsung has now had several generations to work out any kink and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 even happens to be on sale, bringing it much lower than the new iPhone Duo.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is now between 14% and 16% off. This takes it down by a clean $300, whether you get it with 256GB or 512GB. The 256GB option which normally goes for $1,900 has dropped to just $1,600 while the 512GB option which normally goes for $2,100 has dropped to just $1,800.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 has perhaps the biggest jump in its design in between generations since the lineup’s introduction with the first generation.
The huge change you’ll find here is its form factor. Previous iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold have had its exterior screen more closely aligned with the standard 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio found across most phones. This meant that when you unfold it open, the inside screen is still taller than it is wide, retaining a portrait view.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 instead opts for a shorter and wider front screen. This makes it so that the device opens up more like a book and becomes wider than it is tall, naturally opening to a landscape view. This creates more a shift in how and when you would want to use the phone either open or closed. Unfolded is great for reading books or catching up on a favorite TV show, while folded is still great for when you just need to respond to a quick text message or look something up.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 also comes in significantly lighter than the iPhone Duo, weighing only 201g while the new iPhone duo comes ion at 254g. That’s nearly a two ounce difference between each.
