As if we needed any more proof that 2005 was going to be the year of ‘computers as commodity’ consumer electronics, WinBook has announced two new companion products—a 30-inch widescreen 1280 by 768 pixel LCD and a Pentium 4-based Windows Media Center Edition set-top PC—for just $1,000 apiece. Now bear in mind, that’s after a $200 mail in rebate (per unit), but that’s still an excellent price. As much as I’ve been recommending to people that at this point they should save up to buy a HD monitor that can do a full HDTV 1080 resolution (1080i, if not 1080p), at price points like these its sort of hard to tell people to wait.
