We're one step closer to our dreams of having Robert Picardo pop up and ask us the nature of the medical emergency. On Tuesday night, CNN will be using 3-dimensional holograms of the Obama and McCain spokespeople, alongside the (somewhat) real Wolf Blitzer. Instead of simply showing the spokespeople on a splitscreen as Blitzer interviews them, CNN plans to film each spokesperson using 44 separate cameras, filtered through 20 computers. The resulting 360-degree image will be projected into CNN's Manhattan studio, making it look as though the spokesperson will be there in person. [Guardian]
