Meg Tilly gives her husband a nice soothing massage, so he can fall asleep and be replaced by a pod person, in Abel Ferrara’s 1993 Body Snatchers film. Meanwhile, their teenage daughter has nodded off in the bath and is slowly being podded as well. It’s a supremely creepy moment from a masterfully creepy film, with the sensuality of Tilly’s hands gliding over Terry Kinney’s oiled skin feeling more and more disturbing, until the tentacles sliding into his mouth and nose almost feel like an afterthought. In a just world, this Snatchers would have opened on thousands of screens, and the recent Nicole Kidman version would have debuted as an in-flight video in Bavaria.
