Windows Phone 7 now has just over 5,000 titles (5,149 to be exact) in their 2 month old marketplace. That's the same number as Palm's 1.5 year old webOS store.

The number of apps in the Windows Phone 7 marketplace quickly jumped to the 5k mark from 3,000 at the end of November and 4,000 a week prior. It's still nowhere near the more established 300,000 and 100,000 apps of the iOS and Android markets, respectively, but it's growing at a much faster rate in our current smartphone-centric environment. I'm rather impressed by the growth of the WP7 marketplace. I'm going to be faced with a fairly interesting choice when my next phone upgrade comes around.

But honestly, why bother posting the number of iOS or Android apps in this article? It's irrelevant since, as you said WP7 is only MONTHS old, not to mention M$ has explicitly stated they were more concerned with quality apps over the quantity. 300,000 or 100,000 both are too many. How many of those apps even get downloaded?
