The Ziga USA Media Tablet sure is an odd product. It’s built around an 8.4-inch 800 by 600 pixel LCD and runs Windows CE, but it also has a built-in DVD drive and MPEG 2 hardware decoding on board. So it’s a slate-style DVD player, but also a Pocket PC. Oh, and get this—you can choose to add a hard drive and install Windows 2000. Strange, huh?
It doesn’t look like it’s in production, though. The Ziga USA page looks more like a generic brochure site companies usually set up when they’re trying to sell an OEM product to another company to be rebranded. But if the hardware isn’t that expensive, it could be an interesting alternative to portable DVD players and hard disk-based portable video players. Why choose one or the other when you can have both? (Thanks, Hisham!)
