All the hubbub floating around the tech sites (including us) about Sony killing the PSX may, in fact, be completely off the mark. TechJapan says that the people claiming they've translated the official PSX homepage into messages of doom, destruction and halted production are just plain wrong. In fact, they say there is no mention whatsoever of production being halted on the PSX page. So to sum up, death still knocks for the Clie, but the PSX lives on (at least until we hear otherwise, and start all over again).

story I went and checked and like TechJapan says, there is no
such press release.

However, if you go to that page and look at the graphics in the top
where it's got the picture of the PSX and the 250GB and 160GB
model numbers, under each model number there is some Japanese.
That Japanese says "Production Complete". Also, if you scroll
down the page a tad where you can click on the pictures of the
two different models to go to more detailed specs pages, it also
says the same thing underneath the model numbers.

So I'd say the original story was correct, if a little off.

relates to the current model. As this article below states (in
Japanese), the planned number of consoles had been manufactured so
production was stopped. Sony plans to continue to produce and sell the
PSX and the next model is currently being investigated.
