Skype Wants On Cell Networks

Interesting developments for Skype users, as the company's just filed a petition with the FCC to ask the latter to force cellphone carriers to loosen up the usage terms for VoIP. As of now, even if you've got a fast data connection like EV-DO or HSDPA, the providers have largely made it against the EULA—with punishment of cancellation—to use stuff like Skype over your data plan.

Skype wants to make the FCC force providers to cut it out, essentially paving the way to allow future phones to be able to use the "unlimited" data plans on cellphone carriers to make their Skype calls. Carriers, of course, don't like this, because it takes away from their usage minutes. We'll see how this one plays out.
