The Skinny: The mv2120 Media Vault, a junior Linux-based server with the Photo Webshare and iTunes server functionality of its big brother but a much lower cost. (They'll start at $300.) As for the big guy, he's getting some much needed updates come February, including server-side anti-virus software from McAfee; improved media streaming to Media Center Extenders thanks to Packet Video, and support for 64-bit Vista.

Looks Really sweet..
I'll pass. I'd rather have a box that can stream 1080p from my pc..less things to break/crash..even if its running linux
Damn you Gizmodo ... you scoop up these announcements so quick that there simply isn't any other backup info I can find ... everyone is quoting your post.
If going for a 2-bay NAS, the qnap 209 Pro does a LOT more for a similar price.

Any specs?
@LIANNA_G : So very true!! I tried to google it to get some more info on this. Just invested in a Linksys NAS200 and was wondering if I should just take it back..but oh well.
By the way... Any Specs???
This thing looks like a 4-drive system, which is nice, but with linux software-RAID I prefer using RAID 6 (dual parity) instead of RAID 5 (single parity). I've seen too many cases where a linux software RAID 5 volume dies due to a single drive failure and then a second drive fails before the volume can be rebuilt, especially with the rapidly growing capacity of hard drives. To that end, I got a Thecus N5200, which holds 5 drives and supports RAID 6. The Thecus also supports the installation of custom modules and there's an active hacking community that offers all sorts of add-ons like rsync, ftp server, ssh/scp server, etc.
ok, time for a stupid question . . .
WHAT IS ITUNES SERVER FUNCTIONALITY? I don't know. Does this mean I put mp3/mp4/m4v/etc files on the drive and it shows up as a shared music library in my house?
@schrosa: yes
Hey Giz, some other website seems to have absconded with your picture above.

I gave the mediasmart server (the larger 4 drive one) as a Christmas gift for my father. It worked fine as he copied his entire mp3 collection to it, and then it crashed less than 24 hours later, leaving nothing but a blinking red light which according to the manual means a bios failure. So I returned it and got him something else.
I won't choose this kind of product. QNAP NAS is much better. I have one TS-209 Pro, and now am waiting for the coming TS-409 Pro. (all the RAID functions, BT download, FTP server, DLNA streaming to PS3, PHP/MySQL, bra bra bra)
TKWarrior...isn't the TS 209 pro about 50% more when you add the drives?
I got this guy to review ( a lot later than you guys!) but it is awesome and I am loving it.
The websharing options, the revision system and the easy backup make this thing gold to the inexperienced user.
And how about gaining root on it and making it do your evil bidding for the nix gurus out there?
But can it play doom?
