USB thumb drives stopped being cool about 10 years ago, but what happens when you stick a microSD card reader on board? It gets cool again, that's what. Kingston's DataTraveler Micro does just that, and even holds up to 4GB of onboard memory inside the thumbdrive itself. The reader can read not only microSD cards, but microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2). Prices are $19, $28 and $42 for the 1, 2 and 4GB models respectively. [Kingston]

still not cool lose the cap
You know you're spoiled when getting 4gb of memory for $42 bucks is only cool because of the bells and whistles. When I was young 1gb was unheard of, and furthermore .....zzzzzz
The only thing cool about microSD is finding it after you've dropped it.
@SchruteBuck: That, and sneaking sensitive data into the country in your, um, "other pocket".
I'm just putting it out there, but thank GOD for Kingston. Thank GOD for 4 gb memory sticks for 30 bucks or whatever.
Thank you little air-cooled baby jesus for this gift of cheap, tiny, solid memory.
ummmmmmm..... why is this cooler than a stick?
And, its got a built-in nail clipper too.
@aboriginal: But wait, there's more!!!!
I'm in a picky sort of mood today, so I apologize for the following:
"USB thumb drives stopped being cool about 10 years ago"
Yeah, more like 5.
"holds up to 4GB of onboard memory inside the thumbdrive itself"
That's rather redundant.
K, I'm done.
what is it with the 4GB limit? It makes no sense. Once at 4GB you are into the SDHC standard anyway, so it can go to 32GB. I use an 8GB microSDHC right now.
message to Victorinox: that looks like an idea for the Swiss Memory; not that I haven't been saying that for ages....
um... i clicked the link to their site and cant find this product anywhere. its also not on froogle.com or amazon.com.
i actually need something like this.
What glass said. is this due out at a later time?
@brutek: Sounds like it means the thumbdrive holds 4gb which is expandable with the microSD card. Such as when digital cameras have onboard memory? I don't think it limits the size of microSD card you can use...someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.
@brutek: they meant that there's 4GB of built-in storage, plus whatever the microSD card adds. which, if it supports microSDHC, it's basically a 4GB thumb drive upgradable to 36GB (4 built in + 32 on the card).
for the price-per-GB alone (on the 4GB model), it's a sweet deal. if you're OK with the cheapy design, and you have microSD cards laying around, it's a great deal.
check out this little gizmo from Kingston. No cap to lose, 7 bucks and if you can live w/out the internal memory, you'll be just fine. And who needs memory stick anyway? If a gadget of mine would use a MS, I'd get a MS-microSD-adapter. If Sony doesn't want to standardize, the market offers lots of ways. BTW: is that really a microSD-slot in the XPeria? Just wondering...

@rimplestultskin:
Thanks. I was just reading the Palm Centro specs (GSM version) and it says expandable via microSD to 4GB. Guess I improperly translated that to this description. Thanks for the correction!
@yogibimbi:
Well, here's one that I used myself:
N30
5 bucks and almost as small as the microSD card, itself. Oh, and it'll fit into the slot of a MacBook Air!
I have the full size DataTraveler Reader with 2GB of onboard memory and MMC/SD/miniSD/microSD/SDHC support. It's easily the best memory stick I've ever used. I would like the onboard memory to be bigger, but it's pretty good for moving most files around, plus with the built-in ability to read any SD card or variant, it's indispensible.
i'd like it to be able to transfer the files internally without USB power - via a small battery.
That way you can throw your phone images onto the stick - and then goto a machine - having put the card back in your phone.
Similar product that has been around for awhile is the IoGear Pocket Card Reader ([www.iogear.com]). Got mine at BestBuy for like $10 in October 2007.
