Even the best carriers have their fair share of critics. Whether the problem is dropped calls, poor reception, billing issues or excessive fees—chances are you have been screwed by at least one (if not several) carriers during your lifetime. That having been said, which carrier has given you the most trouble? Feel free to elaborate and vent in the comments. You will certainly feel a lot better.

Verizon. Great coverage/service. Awful application costs and proprietary OS.
What, there's a good one?
Wheres the option for "They All Suck"???
Sprint, CDMA, no phone unlocking/portability for legacy devices. No discounts for loyal customers, and they've sent a big "shove off" letter to those who've called in to customer support too many times.
Cingular/AT&T's coverage sucks (now less than in the past), Verizons closed architecture and crappy phone OS sucks, Sprints service and coverage suck.
Plain and simple they all are terrible, offer shit service at an extremely inflated price.
Us Canadians have way more mobile carrier suckitude than you Americans. One place where you clearly win.
Sprint is the worrst carrier ever. I do not even know where to begin about them. They have horrible phone selections compare to other carriers. Their customer services are really bad. You would have to be on hold for at least 30 minutes until you can talk with someone on the phone.
Verizon simply because every single person I talk to says the same thing:
It's too damn expensive.
Of course, if it were not Verizon, it'd have to be Sprint/Nextell. I'm sorry, but unless you do millions of dollars in business every day, there is NO WAY to justify any of the products they offer. Regular people do not need 3G, quad-band, push to talk, GPS, or ANY of the other things that come with their phones.
Hell, even/especially people with iPhones are getting a bum deal. (I know, *gasp*) Is there really any justification for being raped with service charges every month just to have a pretty phone that you touch the screen of?
I'm sure some people like throwing their money down the drain, but I'm not one of them, sorry.
T-Mobile FTW!
@UNDERSTAR: I believe the keywords here are "sucks the most"
Nextel had the worst f*ing support. Plus their accounting dept would mail a bill to us, mark us as late before the bill arrived and kill service as the check was back in the mail to them the same day we got it.
Note everything is past tense because we dropped the screwballs and paid a penalty to do so rather than continue dealing with that crap after one year of a two year contract.
BTW it's hilarious that Alltel is winning right now.
Name more than 1 person you know who uses Alltel.
You can't.
Sprint/Nextel. I've had it for 5 years; lame phones, TERRIBLE customer service, nothing but stress for loyal customers.
I would have no problem paying the inflated cost of Verizon to get their great coverage if they would just let me get the GSM phones i want.
they say in 2 years they will be part of the "open handset alliance" but they still wont say if they will support all GSM phones and simcards.
Helio. Wow the Ocean is a great device and all but I cant really get service almost anywhere!!!!I just called a couple of hours ago because when I slid my Ocean all I saw was a dark screen and now im going to have to send in my ocean in return for a new one(and im going to lose all the pictures I recently took at the auto show, and my songs, and my videos, and my applications, and.....I think you get the point)
So yea =(
@Mandatory_Field: Which Carrier are you with?
sprint/nextel, and their crappy nokia handsets that bleed into every speaker in my house when they ring
me? i had someone (don't remember who)years ago when, i lost my phone off my motorcycle, wouldn't replace it without filling out paperwork, and me having to wait for a freakin' week for a replacement. i went to verizon and picked up a phone and service that same day, and have had them ever since, i have never had a problem with them, and if you beat them up a little they come across with a little spiff for ya!!!!
i do miss my old star-tac though, i loved that phone
Sprint/Nextel had nothing but trouble with them.
@dvicklund: Huh? I thought you get unlimited data with the iPhone plan?
if i have to see the verizon Os ruin another great phone i'll go mad
@Aceoage: Bell. They're not any worse than the other Canadian carriers in terms of service quality, but they ALL cost too damn much. Heck, Canada is even too expensive for the iPhone!!!!
I have always been an AT&T and Cingular subscriber. Never had an issue. Yet. I've read plenty of horror stories about the big 4, and I thank the mobile phone gods everyday for my continued success. I also ritually sacrifice a RAZR every full moon.
i voted other since U.S. Cellular (Chicago) is the shittest, most god-awful ass that insane amounts of money can buy.
They are crap, ugly phones. They have no SIM cards so unlocking and using another carrier is next to impossible.
They have the worst phone OS imaginable and the prices for downloads like games and ringtones. They give it to you up the ass in every way they can think of. I like verizon better even though It still sorta sucks. I'm going to AT&T once I'm out of Verizon's death grip. Sadly that won't be untill mid-'09
it's weird I've never had problems with sprint except for spotty coverage here and there. And never any billing problems since I don't have a data plan. I've never been with another carrier so I don't vote.
Sprint sucked beyond belief. I've been satisfied (though not overjoyed) with Cingular/AT&T.
I'd have to say Verizon out of bitterness because at my house there is absolutely NO signal from them. Move a house in any direction, however, and you get 5 bars...
AT&T ftw, though I wish they'd skip changing names/practices every month. And bring back free receipt of texts!
t-mobile. I had a dropped call atleast twice a day. In a big metropolitan area, that's just inexcusable. And before their fanboys chime in: no. Their "great" costumer service does NOT make up for it. Sprint just charges up the ass for shitty overall service.
Which mobile carrier sucks the most? Easy: the one you have.
ATT SIM chip... OK I love switching phones.. then iPhone.. sucked in to the vortex. Love it. Hate it. Restoring it again today for the sixth time... advertising pitch
"Fewer Bars in More Places" Verizon, service to die for, phones... fair
Verizon is bad but they're a billion times better than ATT. I switched.
@thechansen: ditto. I was a voicestream/t-mobile member. Went with Cingular/AT&T for the past few years now, no problems.
I'm from Canada, and for me Telus reigns supreme.... as the most craptacular carrier. Everything about the plan and service I get is great, I even get reception in theatres underground. I only pay $30 a month for unlimited talking anytime. But here is the catch. I now and again get strange fees for usage. I wonder why since all my calls are in Halifax. When I check the bill there are calls from places 2 hours away. when I ask what these charges are about they say that although I didn't leave halifax, as their gps can varify, my call was picked up by a tower outside of Halifax by bouncing along the water! That sounds like pure freaking ape crap.
TWF!! Good luck getting the charges reversed though! FU Telus, FU!!
ATT fewer bars in more places.. our promis
If you can find a good one please let everyone know. I have verizon, they're total assholes to me. Their customer service is awful, their phones suck and have a stupid proprietary interface, they overcharge by alot, but i have to say their coverage area is spectacular.
Verizon, had them for a few years and their customer service the worst of any of them... too many problems to count
I'm quite satisfied with ATT so far.
Verizon has always sucked for my area. I switched to Sprint after 3 months with VZW. I have a Moto Q and I love it to death. I have never been to a place where I haven't had reliable signal. Their 3G network spans most of their coverage area too which is cool. I use about 4-5GB of data through my phone when tethered to my laptop. Haven't really had to deal with customer service so I can't answer for that. The lack of discounts for loyal customers kinda sucks compared to other carriers. If I had to complain it would be about that.
@CJ4: Great answer. Everyone I've ever met hates their own carrier. Verizon, great service, crappy selection of phones and os.
Sprint SERO - no problems at all. Unlimited data and texts, no billing issues there. $30 a month. They even credited me the difference for texts when the unlimited texts went live (about 3 months after I started with Sprint).
In about 1.5 years I have had 1 dropped call. SoCal area. Biggest pain is that I can't take it overseas, but that's just an excuse to buy a sweet GSM phone =)
I would rank them from worst to best like this.
1,Verizon. Sure,my problem was eventually fixed but the journey to that point was so disturbing that I can never forgive them. Plus, having experienced the Verizon OS,lockdowns and everything else involved with Verizon culture I couldn't get away fast enough. I dropped them 3 months into a 24 month contract...thats how bad they are.
2,Sprint. Sprint isn't so much bad as just very inconsistent. You call 4 CSR's and get 4 different answers. My big beef with Sprint is if you go inside a store to pay your bill they charge you $5...or at leaast they used to. I've never had a company charge me to give them money.
3,ATT. I had an iphone that worked everywhere except in my house and being my only phone I had to drop them..I was sick of the drops, static and slow as hell data...I never figured my iphone was defective because it worked flawlessly everywhere else. Well, after my nightmare with Verizon and not wanting to go back to Sprint and no prepay option being worth a darn I went back to ATT and decided to live w/ spotty coverage. Well, the problem is the performance of my new phone is outstanding. It works flawlessly in my home. I couldn't be more happy with it. Makes me scratch my head as to why my iPhone didn't work in my house but my new phone does. I was averaging about 5 drops a week w/ my iphone but so far I have zero. Weird. No issues w/ ATT CS.
4,US Cellular. Outstanding CS. The problem here is phone selection, prices, poor data options,etc..all of which is getting better but it's not quite there yet.
But if you have a problem they actually try to fix it and not just to shut you up but to ya know...make you feel satisfied and happy even.
I am very happy with ATT and I would go back to USC if I had to. I'm lukewarm to Sprint...we had them like 4 years ago and it was a rocky but not totally bad relationship. I will never step foot in a Verizon ever again.
They all unequivocally suck...however the Scale of Intentional Evil has to rank Verizon as the biggest mother@#*$^! and T-Mobile as the least.
Verizon never met a phone they didn't cripple. If Google Android takes off they can kiss their phony Picture Mail revenue bye bye.
T-Mobile at least has attempted some innovation with their WiFi tunneling, however their network coverage is arguable the worst of all players.
@Arza: I can't stand any of the services Telus provides. They've managed to be absolutely terrible in all of wireless, DSL, phone and TV.
Myself, I was with Fido/Rogers up till last month, and actually really liked it aside from the price. I get a better deal with Bell through my professional affiliations ($10 unlimited data is pretty amazing for Canada), so I'm with them now, but the call quality and signal strength isn't as good in my area.
Sprint.
I'm on the third collection agency attempting to collect a cancellation fee. Sprint insists "someone" authorized a two year contract two years after I moved into a new home where the last Sprint phone I had was always on roam with no data service. No paperwork, no proof, just "someone" authorized it.
I'm sending them an invoice for my time dealing with their three collection agencies. Surely "someone" at Sprint authorized it.
I switched from Verizon to AT&T because of the shitty phones selection (not to mention proprietary OS), and unbelievably expensive data.
Couldn't be happier with my HTC 3125... YAY GSM!
I signed up just to post something here. I'm from Canada and every service provider here utterly sucks.
Either you have a decent price and poor coverage, or it's the other way around. And I'm not even talking about the hidden fees here. You can subscribe for a 25$/month plan that will cost you upwards of 45$ (8$ of "network access fees", 911 service, other random fees). And they keep raising their price (SMS messages went from 0.15¢ a piece to 0.25¢ a piece last month).
And don't even bother looking for a decent data plan. 500 Mb/month will cost you over 100$. 3G data? 5¢/kb without a plan (that's over 15,000$ per Gb), or you can get unlimited WAP access for 20$/month (that's without voice).
Really, nothing to be too excited over.
Is there a Skype program for iPhone yet?
I gotta be honest, I've been pretty satisfied with Helio. I've never had a problem with service and when I had a problem with my Ocean, they sent me out a new one lickity-split.
I left Cingular (now the new AT&T) for Helio and don't look back.
I voted for Alltel because I cannot stand their commercials; I want to punch them in their faces when they're on.
tmoble's reception is complete crap. their customer service is awesome, though.
sprint's reception is crap, and so is their service. their prices are also outrageous
verizon's ui makes me sick to my stomach
tmobile coverage is horrendous
do we really need to explain sprint/nextel?
I have alltel, and they have been horrible. Some months we have had $500+ bills. We never paid that much, but it was a PITA to get them to correct it all. Even when they would fix it, it wouldn't be completely. Their customer service is horrible. I had a corporate office try to tell me that they couldn't fix my billing, that I had to go to a Kiosk in the mall to do it. Kiosks can't do anything about billing! As soon as I'm off contract I'm dumping them. I may just get a pay-as-you-go phone.
